Subaru has been known to take existing products, raise them, and market them as new models. The compact Crosstrek is a perfect example and has been popular since its debut for the 2012 model year. But up until now, the Impreza-based model has soldiered on without a significant redesign. With the release of the all-new Impreza, it was only a matter of time Subaru would reveal the new Crosstrek, underpinned by the all-new Subaru Global Platform. Let’s see how the styling has changed.
The Crosstrek’s headlights appear narrower in size and now have LED daytime running lights that outline the housings. The grille and front fascia have more rounded styling and the grille loses chrome trim in place of black plastic. The foglights now have a black plastic surround.
The Crosstrek retains its large windows for good outward visibility and also keeps the black plastic fender guards. The headlights and taillights wrap around the body more while the rear spoiler has grown in size resulting in a sportier profile.
Out back, larger rectangular taillights replace the outdated small round taillights. The large rear bumper is flanked by larger rear reflectors with larger black plastic surrounds. The rear window remains sizable and the roof gets a shark fin antenna.
The interior has been updated significantly with a larger and sleeker infotainment screen, vertical center HVAC vents, and a modernized shifter with a leather boot and piano black surround. The seats now have bright contrast stitching and two types of fabric. The bright contrast stitching continues on the steering wheel, center console, dashboard, and door panels. The steering wheel has a sportier appearance with hand grips and the driver display screen should be larger and have better resolution.
Share your thoughts on the all-new 2018 Subaru Crosstrek in the comments below. How does the new Crosstrek compare to the outgoing model and how does it stack up against the competition (Mazda CX-3, Jeep Renegade, Chevrolet Trax, Honda HR-V, etc)?
Last week, we asked you to take a look at the new 2017 Honda Civic Type R and compare it to the competition. The comments were very mixed.
Levi Culp said, “The Honda is definitely the best looking.”
“There is no competition.. STI hands down. Next,” said Jesse Adams
Jonathan Joseph commented, “Golf R over the others just because to me, it seems like the less poser of the group. I’m too old to daily drive those massive wings.”
“I’d take the RS hands down, but I also really love the Type R. The other two can sit on the lot for all I care,” said Emmy Ryan.
