cars news 10: Porsche 911 Carrera S Gains 30 HP with Optional Kit

Porsche has announced a slew of updates to its lineup, including an optional kit that adds 30 hp to the 911 Carrera S, Carrera 4S, and Targa 4S.

The power kit, which increases output to 450 hp, includes larger turbochargers, the Sport Chrono package including dynamic mountings, a modified brake cooling system, and a sports exhaust system with two central tailpipes in a unique design. In the U.S., the kit costs $12,350 for models with a manual transmission or $12,870 for those with a PDK.

In June, the power kit will be available as a retrofit option for older models that already are equipped with the Sport Chrono package. Details on U.S. market availability and pricing have not yet been announced for the retrofit.

The kit comes standard on the 2017 Porsche 911 GTS, which already makes 450 hp. The GTS starts at $121,750, thousands of dollars above the Carrera S.

Other changes to the Porsche lineup include connectivity updates. Porsche’s Connect Plus, standard on the 911 and Panamera, now includes an integrated SIM card that supports the LTE standard. The automaker offers a flat data rate for staying connected on the go, although buyers will be able to book two data packs starting later this year for additional usage.

New colors join the range, including a Saffron Yellow Metallic that’s exclusive to the 911. A new Crayon grey color is available for the 911 and 718, while the current Cayenne is available in new Purpurite Metallic and Palladium Metallic paint jobs. The Panamera adds a Burgundy Red Metallic as well as a Ristretto Brown Metallic color. New interior color options are also available, including the Macan which gets a Black/Luxor Beige leather interior option.
