Honda Clarity Electric, Plug-In Will Debut at New York Auto Show

Honda will debut two new Clarity vehicles at the New York auto show next month.

One is a plug-in hybrid model that is expected to be the volume leader in the Clarity series. It boasts an electric driving range in excess of 40 miles and will be available in all 50 states. The second vehicle is a fully electric model, expected to offer just 80 miles of range, as Automotive News reported. Pricing should come in around $35,000 before tax credits.

The two new vehicles will join the Clarity Fuel Cell, which was delivered to the first U.S. customers late last year. This car replaces Honda’s previous FCX Clarity, boasting a fuel cell that is 33-percent smaller with a 60-percent increase in power density. Range is estimated at 366 miles on one tank of hydrogen.

Prior to the New York auto show, Honda put out teaser images showing all three Clarity sedans together with the Fuel Cell in the middle. It goes without mentioning, but all of the cars should look just about the same. The Honda Clarity Electric, Plug-In, and Fuel Cell sit on a new dedicated platform.

The Clarity series will help Honda achieve its ambitious goals. By 2030, the automaker expects two-thirds of its global sales will come from electrified vehicles.
