Aston Martin Launches AMR Sub-Brand, Shows Two Concepts in Geneva

At the 2017 Geneva auto show, Aston Martin announced the creation of a new sub-brand called AMR, which will be responsible for creating high-performance variants of the automaker’s vehicles. Aston Martin showed off two concepts, the Rapide AMR and the Vantage AMR Pro. The upgrades and changes made to each are all intended to enhance performance. AMR operations will be headquartered at the automaker’s Nürburgring performance testing center.

Aston Martin’s central engineering team will be responsible for developing AMR models, but work on AMR Pro models will be performed by Q by Aston Martin Advanced Operations, which was responsible for the creation of the Vulcan. AMR models will be distinguished by their enhanced power, upgraded chassis, and unique styling cues. The AMR Pro vehicles, on the other hand, will build on the standard AMR cars and be more track-focused. Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer said that the AMR brand is the logical next step after the success of limited-edition high-performance variants like the Vantage GT8 and Vantage GT12.

The Aston Martin Rapide AMR is distinguished by a more-powerful 582-hp 6.0-liter V-12, a new quad-exhaust system, Stirling Green accents, 21-inch alloy wheels, a new front splitter, grille, side sills, and rear diffuser. Inside, the car features Dark Knight Alcantara upholstery with Lime Green accents and carbon fiber trim in the doors and dashboard.

As for the Aston Martin Vantage AMR Pro, it receives more track performance goodies such as a race-spec adjustable suspension, competition engine and transmission mounts, a 500-hp version of the Vantage GT4’s 4.7-liter V-8 and staggered 19-inch alloy wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Cup 2 performance tires. Exterior design tweaks include a new front bumper, grille, front valance and splitter, front fenders, and a revised rear diffuser. Like the Rapide AMR, the Vantage AMR Pro’s interior also features Dark Knight Alcantara upholstery with Lime Green accents, carbon fiber trim, and a roll cage.

Andy Palmer, Aston Martin’s President and CEO, has confirmed that the Rapide AMR and the Vantage AMR Pro will go into production. However, only seven units of the Vantage AMR Pro will be produced while the Rapide AMR will be limited to 210 examples.
