This Is It: 2016 Toyota Tacoma Pickup

With the newly baptized Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size pickups prepared to take a bite out of the aging Taco’s market share, Toyota has a lot riding on the 2016 Tacoma, which is officially under wraps until its debut at the Detroit auto show next week. We managed to snap a set of photos of a double-cab Taco 4x4 ahead of schedule on the condition that we wouldn’t reveal any specific details. Seeing as the Tacoma’s handlers wouldn’t let us touch it—hell, they barely let us look at it—let alone get in and drive it, that’s proved to be an easy task. We did, however, pick up on a few tidbits indicating that the 2016 Tacoma is packing some new engineering under that fresh exterior, including engines and transmissions—a fresh V-6 likely will be mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic.
