cars news 10: What it all Meant: 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Easter Eggs Solved

Beginning January 12, Dodge began slowly doling out snippets of information about its highly anticipated 2018 Challenger SRT Demon. Each weekly video of the dragstrip terror had another hint, some more subtle than others. This led to wild theories, including one that had the Demon using Pro Stock cylinder heads. That one made it all the way to the SRT engineers. Even with some of the top automotive journalists on the case, we never figured most of these out. Now that it has been unveiled we can share what the hidden Easter eggs meant, starting from the first video.

“Cage” premiered January 12 and was the first official acknowledgment that the Demon was really going to happen.

This was the first hint that racing fuel was going to be what really turned the car into the Demon. Some saw the scurrying rodents that end up getting blasted out of the way as a bit of a jab at small-block Chevy engines. SRT engineers wouldn’t deny that if you asked.

“Body” came out January 26.

It left viewers with a cryptic hint — the first of many — and if you told us you were able to figure it out, you’re lying. It refers to the 2,576 pounds of weight transfer required to lift the front wheels and the 35 is the distance, in inches, the front wheels are carried in a production car record certified by the Guinness Book of World Records.

“Crate” came out on February 2 and included a still of the personalized serial plate. The 1121 refers to November 21, the date the Demon ran its 9.65-second ET. Tom Coddington was a Dodge engineer and a member of the pioneering Ramchargers race team.

“Third Law” followed on February 23 and gave us this image. Again, this one is some real insider stuff that led to all kinds of math on our part trying to make sense of it. For the record, we were way off. The real meaning is that at 13.5 mph, Demon hits its peak acceleration of 57.5 feet per second squared at .500 seconds into the run.

“Performance Pages” from March 9 showed 7:57 in the clock, marking the second time we’d seen that number. According to Dodge, this was supposed to hint at more than 750 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque. Seems like a stretch to us.

“No Pills” on March 16 gave us another formula. This one translates to 3.9 pounds of boost with Torque Reserve putting an additional 221 lb-ft of torque for a total of 405 lb-ft at launch.

“Lock ‘n’ Load” from March 23 gave us the final formula. When combined with Torque Reserve, the Transbrake allows for 8.3psi of boost at launch and 534 lb-ft of torque.
