Dirt Every Day Attempts to Drive a Junkyard Jeep YJ Home

Can a dilapidated Jeep YJ make it home from the junkyard? On this episode of Dirt Every Day, hosts Fred Williams and Dave Chappelle (no relation to the comedian) show up at the Jeep graveyard outside of Rosamond, Calif., with just a battery, gas can, big tires, and some spare parts for a Jeep YJ.

The duo settles on a 1994 Jeep Wrangler YJ with the 4.0-liter inline-six-cylinder and an AX15 five-speed manual transmission. In order to negotiate a good price, Williams agrees to give up the roof rack, cloth top, half doors, and rear bumper. After removing all the good parts and installing a roll bar, they fire up the engine.

Next, they turn their attention to the rear and front suspensions as well as the steering. Finally, after a set of wheel spacers, some wheels and tires, and a fluid check, they are on their way.

Williams and Chappelle turn the normal three-hour drive to Pismo Beach into a two-day adventure tackling some back roads in their newly acquired 1994 Jeep Wrangler YJ. Check out the video below to watch their adventure back to civilization.
