The 2018 Jaguar F-Type Coupe and F-Type convertible gain a new base engine for their mid-cycle refresh. The automaker’s turbocharged 2.0-liter Ingenium inline-four cylinder engine is now available in the automaker’s two-seat sports car.
In the F-Type, the Ingenium gas engine makes 296 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque and is mated exclusively to the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. Jaguar just introduced the Ingenium gas engine in the 2018 XE, F-Pace, and XF, where the turbo-four is tuned to 247 hp and 269 lb-ft. Jag’s previous turbocharged 2.0-liter was derived from a Ford design. Four-cylinder F-Type models can be spotted by the single rectangular center-mounted exhaust tip.
The base 2018 F-Type Coupe with the turbo 2.0-liter will be priced at $60,895 (including $995 destination). That puts power and pricing in line with the 292-hp 2017 Audi TTS Coupe ($53,450), 300-hp 2017 BMW Z4 sDrive35i roadster ($58,495), 362-hp Mercedes-AMG SLC43 roadster ($61,225), and 300-hp 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman coupe ($56,350) and 718 Boxster roadster ($58,450). Pricing for the four-cylinder Jaguar F-Type convertible has yet to be announced.
Jaguar is also introducing the limited-edition 2018 F-Type 400 Sport featuring a 400-hp supercharged 3.0-liter V-6. The new model will be offered in Indus Silver, Santorini Black, or Yulong White metallic exterior paint colors and will feature Yellow and Dark Satin Gray 400 Sport badges on the front and rear outside. Inside, the limited edition will feature 400 Sport branding on the center console, steering wheel, sill plates, and embroidered headrests, as well as yellow contrast stitching.
The 340-hp and 380-hp (S and S AWD) versions of the supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 will carry over as will the supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 producing 550 hp (R) and 575 hp (SVR). A manual is available with the V-6 and rear-wheel drive.
Other 2018 model year updates include new front fascia with redesigned full-LED headlights, and new paint and wheel options. Inside, new lightweight slimline seats increase driver and passenger legroom and improve ergonomics and comfort, while a ventilated seat option is new. Other new interior options include noble chrome interior, Sienna Tan interior, and new center console finishers.
The Jaguar InControl Touch Pro infotainment system is now standard and features a faster processor and automotive Ethernet connections. The infotainment system also includes a new GoPro connectivity feature dubbed ReRun. The new app is intended to record track laps via vehicle telemetry data including speed, lateral acceleration, gear selection, and throttle and brake position, which is then overlaid with GoPro footage. The high-quality video can also be downloaded onto a smartphone.
