The Infiniti QX80 Monograph looks just as brazen as teaser images suggested it would. Debuting at the New York auto show this week, the model provides a glimpse into the future of Infiniti’s full-size SUV.
The concept features a boxy body bathed in gold paint and chrome accents. Blacked-out A-pillars emphasize the vehicle’s shape, and pop-out door handles provide a clean look. Crazy two-tone 24-inch wheels have outer edges that overlap with the tires, giving the appearance of even larger 26-inch wheels, Infiniti says. One of the more predictable upgrades is its double-arch grille, which falls in line with the look of other new Infiniti models. It is taller, wider, and features an updated mesh pattern.
Up front, Infiniti installed “piano key” style headlamps that we’ve seen on other concepts. On this model, the headlamps extend far into the hood of the vehicle, with thin light bars leading to discrete rearview cameras. In the back, you’ll notice thinner taillights and wide twin exhausts with a gloss-black airfoil in between to help deliver smoother air flow. The D-pillar has been reshaped as well.
Unfortunately, Infiniti didn’t reveal the interior of the car. But it did say that once the door opens, an aluminum sill step helps the driver and passengers enter the vehicle.
Infiniti says the concept represents an examination of how the exterior design of the QX80 may evolve in time. The concept is the first to bear the Monograph name, which is expected to be used on other Infiniti design studies in the future.
