Name That Shifter, No. 209: 2005 Saab 9-2x Aero

Name That Shifter

2005 SAAB 9-2X Aero

Shifter No 209We presented this week’s shifter on Monday and asked you to identify the make and model of the vehicle whence it came. The first commenter to correctly identify it as a Saab 9-2x was repeat winner Icculus.

The Saab 9-2x shown here was featured in our July 2004 issue. In what is one of history’s more bizarre mashups, the little wagon was essentially a rebadged Subaru WRX. At the time, GM had a 100 percent equity share in Saab and a 20 percent share in Subaru. Thus was born the 9-2x. It may have been strange, but with the same 227-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter flat-four, five-speed manual, and all-wheel-drive system from the WRX, the 9-2x was unquestionably fun to drive.
