Last fall, one of our spy photographers captured something interesting: a prototype that appeared to be a Porsche Taycan station wagon. Or more specifically, it looked like a Taycan sedan prototype with a hatch crudely attached. We wanted to believe it was proof that Porsche had plans for a Taycan Sport Turismo, but there was no telling whether something so rudimentary was headed for production. Based on these latest spy shots, though, it looks like the Taycan Sport Turismo is definitely happening.
Granted, we already knew Porsche had plans to build some sort of second Taycan variant. It had already confirmed that the Mission E Cross Turismo would go into production in some form. But we weren’t sure whether the final version would be more of a crossover than a station wagon. Based on how finished this prototype looks, it appears Porsche is leaning toward a good, old fashioned longroof.
But even though the prototype seen here is much more production-ready than the one we saw back in October, it’s not quite there. There’s still some work to be done from the C-pillar back. Even so, you can still get a solid idea of what Porsche plans to do. And if you’re a fan of the Panamera Sport Turismo, you’re in luck. The Taycan Sport Turismo looks more or less like a smaller, electric version of the big sports wagon, just without real exhaust pipes.
As for when we’ll finally see the production version, our bet is that it will show up at the Frankfurt motor show in September. After all, that’s where the Mission E concept was first revealed back in 2015.
