Honda E Prototype Previews New EV Due This Year

Honda already announced it would debut an EV concept at the Geneva Motor Show in March, but now we know a few more details on the vehicle that previews a production model due later this year.

The automaker released new images of the small car. Now, we can see its flush door handles, unique wheels, and circular taillights that match the headlights. Also, notice the prototype features cameras instead of traditional side view mirrors. Honda placed the charging port right in the middle of the hood, and LED lighting shines through the cover to inform drivers of the car’s charging status. To refresh your memory, this vehicle is a follow-up to the Urban EV Concept that Honda debuted in 2017. The new car features a softer, more rounded design while maintaining the funky feel of the original.

Peek inside the cabin, and you’ll find three main screens. Two more screens sit at either end of the dashboard, showing rear-view images captured by the Camera Mirror System. Under the screen area, there is a volume knob, home button, and other controls. Honda went for a lounge-like interior with sofa fabric seats, wood accents, and a walk-through flat floor in the front and rear of the cabin. Other features include a panoramic windscreen and digital rear view mirror.

The model will sit on a dedicated platform for electric vehicles. Honda hasn’t released all the specs but says the car will be rear-wheel drive.

Honda says the model will deliver a range of “over 200 km,” or 124.3 miles. We’re hoping that means well over 200 km, because other EVs such as the upcoming Volkswagen I.D. are promising much higher numbers. Fast charging functionality will be available on the little Honda, allowing drivers to recharge 80 percent in 30 minutes.

The Honda e Prototype will debut March 5 in Geneva.
