Every major player in the heavy-duty truck game is new or refreshed this year, included GM’s two offerings: the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD and 2020 GMC Sierra HD. Both trucks receive upgraded hardware in addition to new styling. Which one is the better looker? Read on and decide for yourself.
The Silverado HD has been the internet’s punching bag since it was revealed, owing largely to its boxy front end and massive grille. The GMC’s grille actually looks a bit larger since it’s wider, and there’s no horizontal bar to break it up. Silverado High Country models get a unique front end with a grille that’s slightly less in your face and headlights that feature L-shaped LED accents. The Sierra HD AT4 also gets a bespoke nose complete with blacked-out grille and red tow hooks.
As you’d expect, the two trucks look nearly identical from the side. The fenders on the GMC are more prominent thanks to character lines that accentuate their shape. The plastic fender liners also feature reflectors on the Sierra. Taillight shape will be one easy way to identify the two from the side or rear, as the Sierra HD features traditional vertical lamps while the Silverado HD’s lights have a characteristic notch in the middle just like the 1500. Both trucks get GM’s CornerStep rear bumper design. Of course, one way the GMC sets itself apart from the Chevy is with its available MultiPro six-way configurable tailgate.
Inside, the differences will be harder to spot. Just like their smaller 1500 siblings, the Silverado and Sierra HD share a center stack (with available 8.0-inch touchscreen) and have very similar dashboard and instrument cluster designs. The main differences come down to available interior trim. For a detailed comparison between the cabins of the Silverado and Sierra 1500, check out this article.
So which GM heavy-duty truck wears it better? And is the Silverado HD really deserving of the scorn it’s received? Tell us in the comments on Facebook!
