Lawsuit Alleges $1.5 Million Porsche Bought From Jerry Seinfeld Was a Fake

Back in 2016, Jerry Seinfeld decided to sell part of his Porsche collection at Gooding & Company’s Amelia Island auction. One of the cars he sold was an incredibly rare 1958 356 A 1500 GS/GT Carrera Speedster. Or at least that’s what the buyer thought it was. According to a lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court, the car purchased for $1,540,000 may have been a fake.

The Associated Press reports that last Friday, Fica Frio Limited, the Channel Islands-based company that bought Seinfeld’s GS/GT Carrera Speedster sued Seinfeld for a full refund in addition to an unspecified amount of damages related to the purchase. Interestingly, the suit also claims Seinfeld contacted Fica Frio last June to apologize and offer to return the money.

According to Seinfeld’s lawyer, that’s not necessarily the case. “He has asked Fica Frio for evidence to substantiate the allegations. Fica Frio ignored Jerry and instead filed this frivolous lawsuit,” the lawyer said in a statement. He also said Seinfeld “is willing to do what’s right and fair, and we are confident the court will support the need for an outside evaluator to examine the provenance of the car.”

Considering the car was sold with a certificate of authenticity from Porsche and was restored by a reputable shop, we’re not sure Fica Frio will be able to prove Seinfeld intentionally deceived them. But we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this case as it develops.
