Maven, a mobility service created by General Motors, is offering Chevrolet Bolt EVs to drivers in the gig economy. Through a new service called Maven Gig, drivers can rent a Bolt for delivering groceries, giving rides to passengers, and providing other freelance services.
“With no penalty for early returns after one week, Maven Gig is a low-risk way to test out the freelance economy and get your side hustle on,” GM said in a recent press release.
The program is now underway in San Diego and will go live in Los Angeles and San Francisco later this year. Currently, prices start at $229 per week, but this rate includes free charging at EVgo stations, insurance (minus deductibles), maintenance, and unlimited miles. Drivers can use the Bolt EV for any app, but Maven Gig lists GrubHub, Instacart, and Roadie among its partners.
With the new service, Maven is expanding its role in the shared economy. Its on-demand rental for ridesharing program has provided 9.3 million rides so far. Since last year, Maven has provided ridesharing vehicles in 11 different cities around the country, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Nashville, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.
