Bentley Bentayga Falconry by Mulliner is for the Birds

The training of falcons as hunting companions dates back nearly 3,000 years and is one of the oldest hunting methods on record. At first, falconry was used to help in hunts, but it quickly became a sport for the gentry, or “high-born” classes.

Falconry became a sport of kings and conquerors. To celebrate that rich history, Bentley’s Mulliner coach-building division, has created the one-off Bentayga Falconry by Mulliner.

Designed to house “all the equipment required for an enjoyable falconry expedition,” the Bentayga Falconry by Mulliner is set apart from other Bentaygas with a host of bespoke trim pieces and accessories.

Inside the Bentayga Falconry by Mulliner, the cabin is trimmed in black and red leather with black veneers. However, the focal point, at least in the passenger compartment, is the wood marquetry inlay of a falcon in the desert on the front passenger’s dash comprised of 430 individual pieces of wood.

Moving to the trunk, though, brings the full falconry experience as Bentley has kitted this Bentayga out with all the necessary accessories an experienced falconer would need during a day of falconry. There, a master flight station and refreshment case sit.

Finished in a natural cork fabric veneer, the cases feature individual compartments for GPS track units, binoculars, a set of hand-crafted leather bird hoods and gauntlets, all of which Bentley points out are available options. Inside the refreshment case, three metal flasks, a set of “durable” cups, a blanket, and a refreshing set of face cloths.

For perching, Bentley has included two perches that lock into the Bentayga’s trunk floor, as well as inside the cabin, a removable transportation perch and tether located in the central armrest. Everything you’d need on a falconry expedition into the heart of the desert.

Geoff Dowding, the Director of Bentley’s Mulliner division, said, “The Bentley Bentayga Falconry showcases what’s possible with our skilled craftspeople. They can devise elegant and exquisitely executed bespoke solutions to complement any lifestyle or hobby. Falconry is regarded as the sport of kings in the Middle East, so it was vital that the kit we created was as luxurious as it was practical and durable to appeal to our valued customers there and around the world.”

Bentley hasn’t stated how much the Bentayga Falconry by Mulliner costs, but considering “exceptional” examples of Saker Falcons, the most sought-after birds in the world, could cost up to $1,000,000; price likely won’t mean anything to those true falconry acolytes.
