Lexus has released another sporty coupe, and host Jason Cammisa tries to figure out what exactly it is this time around on the latest episode of Ignition. With Lexus’ inconsistent history of sports coupes starting with the sporty and luxurious SC 300 from the ‘90s, then the not sporty SC 430, and then the supercar LFA, Jason wasn’t sure what to expect from the all-new LC 500. So what kind of coupe is this? Find out in this episode.
The LC 500’s 471-hp 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V-8 mated to a 10-speed automatic, 4.8-second 0-60 time, 13.2-second quarter-mile, huge brakes, and mechanical LSD make the Lexus look great on paper. Not to mention the LFA-inspired tachometer’s redline of 7,100 rpm. This appears to be the formula for a sports car, but it’s not quite that as Jason explains.
The coupe’s very attractive styling, utterly impressive interior, silky smooth powertrain, seating for four, and superb ride quality result in something completely different, something that Lexus does very well. Those wanting efficiency with their sexy styling can opt for the LC 500h, which packs a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 3.5-liter V-6 coupled to a pair of electric motors that produces 354 hp combined and delivers an EPA-rated 26/35 mpg city/highway.
Watch the episode below and find out what Jason thinks of the Japanese automaker’s latest coupe.
