Disgruntled Dodge Journey Owners Crush CUV With a Tank

A disgruntled Australian couple used a tank to crush their unreliable and trouble-wrought Dodge Journey. Thankfully, they captured it on video, so we can witness the glorious vehicular carnage. The couple, named Joe and Kate, say they’ve been fighting Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s Australian arm for three years in the belief that their Journey qualified as a lemon. According to the couple, their Journey started having issues after two years of ownership and they say that FCA’s business practices are pure arrogance. According to the couple, Australia’s Competition and Consumer Commission told FCA Australia in September 2015 to start a so-called “consumer redress program” to review how it handled previous complaints because of increasing public outcry.

The couples says that for the past three years the Journey was plagued with mechanical issues, including engine overheating from a cracked reservoir, a blown head gasket, oil leaks that went into the car’s cooling system, battery issues, cracked engine mounts and windows randomly rolling down. The couple says that FCA Australia hasn’t assisted them in any way and they had to pay out of pocket to fix the car. So instead of selling the car and making it someone else’s problem, they opted to crush it in the best way possible: using a tank.

Before the day of the crushing, the couple received a call from FCA offering another inspection but they believed it was a stalling tactic from FCA Australia. However, that didn’t stop them as they went on with the event after FCA tried to tell the media that Joe and Kate refused the inspection, even though the car was already inspected three times prior to the call. As a result, the epic crushing occurred in an open park where the Journey was trampled over with a tank from virtually every direction. Unsurprisingly, the gargantuan tank mangled the Journey into a heap of scrap metal. After it was crushed, the couple and their daughter took pieces of the car as souvenirs.

While the flattening of the Journey was epic, the event was intended to raise awareness for stronger lemon laws in Australia. The couple believes they’re needed in order to give consumers additional protection from large companies, importers, and dealers. A Facebook page has also been setup to raise awareness for stronger lemon laws in Australia.
