Genesis outlined changes for the 2017 G80, formerly known as the Hyundai Genesis sedan. While its exterior design remains largely the same after transitioning to the Genesis brand, the car does gain a longer list of standard features. The 3.8-liter V-6 with 311 hp and 293 lb-ft of torque carries over as the base engine, while the 5.0-liter V-8 rated at 420 hp and 383 lb-ft is optional. An eight-speed automatic transmission remains the only gearbox offered while all-wheel drive is optional on the V-6-powered G80.
The most notable addition is a full suite of active safety features, including automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, and high beam assist. These are now standard across the G80 range. Thanks to the active safety and collision avoidance features, Genesis expects the G80 to receive a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay have also been integrated into the G80’s infotainment system, which features an 8-inch touchscreen as standard and can be upgraded to a 9.2-inch unit as part of an optional package. Additional features that come standard or as options include navigation, a 4.3- or 7-inch display in between the gauges, a 17-speaker Lexicon Discrete Logic 7 Surround premium audio system, and a head-up display.
In the Korean market, Genesis also released the G80 Sport, which is powered by a 365-hp 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6. However, it’s not yet known if that model will be sold in North America.
