Now You See It: Infiniti QX30 Crossover Concept Revealed

Infiniti QX30Infiniti has released the first real photo of its QX30 compact crossover ahead of the concept’s debut at the Geneva auto show.

The QX30 is just over an inch taller than the Q30 concept, but apparently that’s enough to make it more of a crossover, earning it an X in its name, and not a hatchback. The vehicle looks stylish—not easy to do in this segment— with Infiniti’s characteristic waving-lines body sculpting, accented by aluminum and carbon-fiber trim bits. It rolls on meaty, 21-inch wheels.

What Infiniti is not telling you but we will is that the concept previews a production model of the same name, which is expected before the end of the year. Unlike the cramped and sale-proof Infiniti QX50 (nee EX37), the production QX30 will eschew rear-drive in favor of a more conventional, FWD/AWD layout. Its platform is borrowed from the Mercedes-Benz GLA, and the baby Infiniti is also expected to use Mercedes four-cylinder engines. It will do battle in the premium corner of the burgeoning compact crossover segment, against the likes to the Audi Q3, the BMW X1, and the Lexus NX.
