When we last spoke with Tobias Moers, the man at the helm of AMG, the charmingly gruff engineer confirmed that we would see a Black Series variant of the new AMG GT toward the end of the model run. He also noted that in two years’ time, we’ll get a variant that sounds as if it’ll be a harder-core vehicle than the new GT S, but that Mercedes’ performance arm hadn’t decided whether they would attempt a roadgoing car akin to Porsche’s 911 GT3.
If, however, such a machine comes down the pike, expect it to pull cues from this, the new Mercedes-AMG GT3 racer. While the GT features a face that pulls inspiration from the original SL and its follow-up, the impossibly lovely Pagoda, the GT3 approximates the GT’s visage as applied to a meaty pig knuckle. If your schweinshaxe suddenly happens to sprout dive planes, you might be eating an AMG GT3 sandwich.

We took the liberty of tweaking the supplied teaser image to bring out details buried in the shadows. We mostly found a tow hook and a preponderance of wire-mesh grillework. AMG is mum on further details, other than to note that the car will be available to American teams. The new racer will be fully unwrapped at next month’s Geneva Auto Show, at which time we’ll likely blubber and drool further. Won’t you?
