Gas Jumps Five Cents Overnight

If you filled up on the way to work this morning you might've gotten a bit of a shock at the pump. The national average price for regular gasoline jumped 5 cents from Tuesday to $2.11 according to AAA. A slow rise in prices was predicted as spring travel season approached, but for people used to near-$2 gas the times look to be changing — quickly.

When I filled up this morning in the suburbs of Chicago the price had gone up 10 cents overnight. AAA reports the average hike in the Chicago metro area was just 6 cents while statewide in Illinois prices were up 7 cents to $2.23 compared to Tuesday.

Ohio saw prices soar even higher, moving up 15 cents statewide compared to Tuesday.

There are still 20 states with gas below $2 a gallon, many of them seeing much smaller increases overnight.
