Last year, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS lapped the Nürburgring in 6:47.03. Not only was that an insanely quick time, it also beat the Lamborghini Huracan Performante’s time of 6:52.01, making the 911 GT2 RS the quickest production vehicle to ever lap the Green Hell. At least for a few months. Today, Lamborghini announced that it officially broke Porsche’s record with the still-yet-to-be-released Aventador SVJ.
According to Lamborghini, the track-focused Aventador SVJ lapped the Nürburgring in 6:44.97. That’s more than two full seconds quicker than the 911 GT2 RS, one of the most capable cars we’ve ever tested. Oh, and in case you’re curious, the J stands for Jota. SVJ rolls off the tongue a little more easily than SuperVeloce Jota, so that’s nice.
“The Aventador SVJ takes the Jota suffix, following the Lamborghini tradition for denoting a car’s track-focused talent. This new car is the convergence of Lamborghini technologies to produce a super sports car that transcends current performance benchmarks,” said Lamborghini boss Stefano Domenicali in a statement. “Its tenure as the Nürburgring lap time record holder, even before its unveiling during the Monterey Car Week in California in August, endorses Lamborghini’s competence in applying superlative design engineering and ground-breaking technologies. The SVJ is a super sports car at the zenith of performance, while also ensuring unrivaled driving pleasure.”
Without official specs beyond a 4.37 lb/hp power-to-weight ratio, there isn’t much else to say about the Aventador SVJ at the moment. Expect more info closer to the official reveal later this summer, though. Until then, enjoy the onboard video of the full lap.
