At the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, BMW surprised us with a stunning sedan concept called the M8 Gran Coupe. Specs weren’t available at the time, but from the beginning, we heard the sedan version of the new 8 Series was headed for production. Recently, only weeks after the M850i began rolling off the line, our spy photographer caught the 8 Series Gran Coupe out testing, as well as riding on a transporter.
If you look closely, the car on the transporter appears to be a lower trim level, while the one on the road looks a good bit sportier. But while it’s probably safe to assume there will be an M8 Gran Coupe, the stylized exhaust tips suggest this isn’t an M8. Instead, it’s probably equipped with an M-Sport package.
Since both cars appear to only be covered in a camouflage wrap, they also give us a good idea of how the final car will look. Overall, it sticks closely to the concept even though some of the more extreme elements have been changed. The vents behind the rear wheels appear to have shrunk, as has the ducktail spoiler. The concept’s massive front air intakes have also been changed, giving the car a more production-ready appearance.
As for when BMW will reveal the production car, we can’t really say. Considering when the concept was revealed, though, keep an eye out for the 8 Series Gran Coupe to return to the Geneva Motor Show in March.
