Spied! Jeep Wrangler Pickup Caught on Streets of Michigan

The curtain has been pulled back on the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler, but we still haven’t gotten a good look at the upcoming pickup truck version. These latest shots, sent in by Michigan reader Kaitlan Landry, don’t reveal much, but they do show FCA is hard at work testing the new Jeep pickup.

The Wrangler-based pickup looks about the same as the last time we saw it, wearing heavy black camouflage that obscures the shape of the rear bumper and taillights. Based on the light shining through the camo, however, the taillights could be similar to the square lamps found on the 2018 Wrangler. The doors appear to be straight off a Wrangler Unlimited, and the front end likely doesn’t stray far from the Wrangler SUV’s.

Though FCA has done a better job preventing leaks with the Wrangler pickup than it has with the regular Wrangler, we still know a few things about the upcoming truck. The Wrangler-based pickup, which could be named Scrambler, will get a longer frame than the Wrangler (205 inches versus 172 inches for the Wrangler Unlimited). The pickup will also feature a 12-bolt Dana rear axle and will offer a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 with stop/start capability. The 2018 Wrangler’s 3.6-liter Pentastar gas V-6 may also be offered, but no details on that option have surfaced yet. The truck will be built alongside the Wrangler at FCA’s plant in Toledo, Ohio, which will retool in the first quarter of 2018 in advance of Jeep pickup production. We’ve heard the pickup will be unveiled roughly a year after the 2018 Wrangler, so expect to see it debut around this time next year.
