“Logan Lucky” is a NASCAR-Flavored Heist Film

Summer is nearly here, and that means we’ll soon have a glut of blockbuster movies to choose from. So far, two car movies have been on our radar, Cars 3 and Baby Driver, but we’ve added another to the list after watching the trailer for Logan Lucky.

The film takes place in North Carolina and centers on two brothers, played by Channing Tatum and Adam Driver. After losing their jobs, they hatch a plan to rob Charlotte Motor Speedway during the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR race with help from a master bank robber played by Daniel Craig. The film also stars Katherine Waterston, Riley Keough, Seth MacFarlane, Sebastian Stan, Katie Holmes, and Hillary Swank.

The movie is directed by Steven Soderbergh, who’s no stranger to heist films having directed Ocean’s Eleven and the two sequels that followed. It’s unclear how much car action we’ll see in the movie, but the trailer features a Ford Mustang Shelby GT350, a 1970s Pontiac Grand Prix, and plenty of NASCAR race cars. Will it be this decade’s The Italian Job? We’re not so sure, but we welcome the prospect of more big-budget Hollywood movies involving cars and motorsports. Logan Lucky hits theaters on August 18.
