Lexus looks ahead 700 years into the future with the SKYJET spacecraft featured in the upcoming Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets sci-fi movie hitting theaters on July 21. The company released two ads and a featurette that offers fans an in-depth look into the SKYJET.
The SKYJET, a single-seat pursuit craft, was created in partnership with the EuropaCorp, a leading European film studio, and will be driven by the film’s main character Valerian, played by Dane DeHaan. The ad demonstrates how Lexus envisions personal mobility 700 years from now (when the movie takes place) and the featurette shows the creation process of the SKYJET, including behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with Dane DeHann, producer Virginie Besson-Sillas, and Valerian and Lexus designers.
“Helping design and build the SKYJET allowed us to imagine mobility 700 years in the future and showcase some amazing Lexus ideas,” said the global head of brand management and marketing at Lexus International, Spiros Fotinos, in a release. “This new content adds to the excitement surrounding the film’s debut, and we’re pleased to be part of this incredible and ambitious project,” he continued.
Catch the 30-second ad on cable and on the Times Square digital billboard beginning on June 22 while an extended version of the ad will run on various digital and social channels. Adapted from a French comic series, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is directed by Luc Besson, best known for the 1997 sci-fi classic The Fifth Element.
And just in case you were wondering, Lexus’ famed spindle grille carries on 700 years into the future.
