Delphi Automotive and Transdev, a global leader in mobility services, have formed a partnership to develop a fully automated, mobility-on-demand transportation system (AMoD). The system will make use of Transdev’s car routing software and Delphi’s autonomous driving platform created in collaboration with Israeli tech company Mobileye.
“With Delphi’s expertise in driverless technology, we will accelerate our capabilities to develop a global autonomous transportation system, from client interface to vehicle intelligence,” said Yann Leriche, chief performance officer and lead of the B2C business line at Transdev. “Our ambition is to offer the best ‘PACE’ mobility solutions to our clients: Personalized, Autonomous, Connected and Electric. Combining the strengths of our two companies, leaders in their field, will enable us to introduce innovative driverless services in our current and future operations, confirming the position of Transdev as a pioneer in integrating autonomous transport systems into global mobility networks.”
The goal of this collaboration is the development of fully autonomous vehicles, a driverless vehicle infrastructure solution, and a cloud infrastructure to support a commercial AMoD system capable of operating globally. The two companies plan to accomplish this by integrating Delphi’s autonomous driving platform into Transdev’s transportation service vehicles. Delphi’s platform consists of Ottomatika vehicle control software, a suite of advanced sensors, Control-Tec real-time analytics, Movimento’s over-the-air technology, and Mobileye’s REM technology. Transdev will contribute its Universal Routing Engine and remote control-command software that includes intelligent infrastructure and additional software modules dedicated to public transportation, in addition to the company’s deep knowledge of shared public and commercial mobility services.
Earlier this year, Transdev, a French company, launched a fleet of self-driving taxis in Normandy for the public. With Delphi now on board, both groups can test the new service together and develop the next phase, a commercial service. In Paris-Saclay, Delphi and Transdev will develop an on-demand transportation shuttle between railway stations and the Paris-Saclay campus.
Delphi, headquartered in the U.K., is one of the leading companies in autonomous vehicle research and development and plans to develop a fully autonomous vehicle within a few years. Recently, the company has joined forces with Intel and Mobileye to develop autonomous car technology and all three companies have partnered with BMW to create an autonomous vehicle by 2021. Additionally, Delphi recently bought two tech start-ups and partnered with a German fiber-optics company.
