Watch a Skoda Superb 280 Take on Iconic Vintage Sports Cars

Czech automaker Skoda released an ad pitting the new Superb 280 wagon against an impressive lineup of classic sports cars. Will the Skoda beat out the likes of Ferrari and Porsche?

The video opens up with a group of gentlemen at a card table, and each player antes up a sports car they think will win during an acceleration test. The contenders? A 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera, 1992 Honda NSX-R NA1, 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB Coupe, 1980 Lotus Esprit Turbo, and the 2016 Skoda Superb 280.

The Carrera delivers 228 hp and 209 lb-ft of torque from a 3.2-liter flat-six. The Honda NSX, on the other hand, doles out 276 hp and 217 lb-ft from a mid-mounted 3.0-liter V-6. The 308 GTB offers up 251 hp with 217 lb-ft of torque from a mid-engine 2.9-liter V-8. Meanwhile, the Lotus Esprit Turbo has the least amount of power at 210 hp and 200 lb-ft from a turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4, but does have the weight advantage.

Last but not least, the Superb 280 offers up 276 hp and 258 lb-ft from a turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4, and also benefits from all-wheel drive. Skoda claims the wagon can do 0-62 mph in 5.8 seconds. That puts it in contention with the other cars in the video, but is comparing a modern car with sports cars from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s fair? No, but it is fun to watch. With Skoda thinking about entering the U.S. market, perhaps we’ll have the chance to put together a similar drag race one day.

Check out the video below to watch these five vehicles duke it out in a cheesy but entertaining ad.
