cars news 10: Spied! Audi Q8 Test Mule Caught on Public Roads

Last year, Audi confirmed that it would build the Q8, a large luxury SUV, and now we’ve caught a prototype version testing on the road. It’s not sporting heavy camouflage, and we can see it features a Q7 body with some small updates.

The Q7-based SUV adopts a wider wheelbase, which can be seen with the wider fenders, giving us the impression that the Q8 will be sportier than the smaller Q7 when it launches. Right now, we can’t see much in the way of exterior details, but we expect the front end to resemble the new design of the upcoming Audi A8.

We expect the new Audi Q8 luxury SUV to share many mechanical elements with its smaller Q7 sibling. Expect a range of gas, diesel, and hybrid powertrains, along with both V-6 and V-8 engine options that were developed in conjunction with Porsche. A plug-in hybrid powertrain for the upcoming Q8 was also developed with Porsche, and it should give the large SUV an all-electric range of around 35 miles.

Be on the lookout for the all-new Audi Q8 luxury SUV to debut in late 2017 as a 2018 model.
