New Caterham Ad Parodies Airline Safety Videos

Have you ever wondered what an automotive safety lecture would look like if it applied the same formula used for airline safety presentations? Wonder no more, as Caterham Cars, the quirky British builder of wickedly-fast Lotus 7 replicas, released a new video doing just that.

To be fair, this isn’t necessarily what most people would consider a “normal” car. Caterham Sevens are bare-bones, open-wheeled road-rockets that are more superbike than sports car. In the video, an interested customer listens to a safety briefing from a “flight attendant.” Each instruction is lifted directly from an airline’s playbook, and adapted to the high-performance Caterham.

First up, the attendant instructs viewers on how to use the Seven’s safety belts. As you’d might imagine, the Caterham packs full-bore racing harnesses, keeping the interested passenger secure during “turbulence.”

Need to stow a carry-on bag in the storage compartments? No such luck, as the Seven doesn’t have any trunk space for anything larger than perhaps a shopping bag. As the hostess notes, the use of cellphones during “takeoff” is strictly forbidden. In this case, the featherweight Caterham launches with ferocious power, sending the passenger’s phone flying.

Of course, there is more to see and hear than what we listed, including wonderfully gratuitous footage of a bright green Caterham launching, drifting, and smoking the rear tires.
