BBC America Gives Chris Harris His Own Show

It seems “Top Gear” news will never stop. Following the recent sacking of Chris Evans for providing one of the worst “Top Gear” seasons in the shows history, the BBC has given the affable Chris Harris his own BBC America series using his original YouTube show’s name, “Chris Harris on Cars”.

Harris originally started “Chris Harris on Cars” in 2014 after leaving with the property from The Drive. Sarah Barnett, President of BBC America, said that “’Chris Harris on Cars’ is mischievous, insightful and downright entertaining; we think BBC America viewers will love it.” The show, which will begin next week, will “experiment and explore the newest, fastest and coolest cars on the road.”

Harris has already proved himself as a likable chap on “Top Gear.” His performance on the newly rebooted Top Gear was one of the few high-points of the season, with many fans wishing to see more of him on camera. Apparently, fans were so vocal,  Harris became a regular part of the studio segments after the first two episodes, while Evans shrunk into the background.

Speaking of the new show, Harris stated, “If wanton tire destruction, powerslides and continuous drooling over the world’s fastest and most expensive road racers like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS or the Aston Martin GT12 is your thing—you could do considerably worse than watch me put them through their respective paces on track and road on BBC America.”

“Chris Harris on Cars” will premiere July 11, 9/8c on BBC America, and will give audiences seven full episodes vs “Top Gear’s” standard six-episode block. While we have no doubt people will tune into watch Harris slide gorgeous supercars around a track, we do wonder if this will change the Top Gear dynamic once the show returns next season. On top of all this, we can hardly wait for the original Top Gear trio to return this fall with their new show, “The Grand Tour.
