Updated 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT Debuts at L.A. Auto Show

Mercedes-Benz is updating the two-door GT for 2020, and the biggest news is the new GT R Pro model. But the other AMG GT coupe and convertibles also get upgrades. The lineup is debuting at the Los Angeles Auto Show right now.

Mercedes tweaked the design of the GT lineup, offering updated headlights, a new black sill cover on the bottom of the GT, and new tailpipe designs. Like the four-door, the model also gets a new “Brilliant Blue Magno” paint color, and it offers Nappa-style two-tone leather upholstery options.

For improved agility, Mercedes is offering the new AMG Dynamics feature. This feature detects speed, steering angle, and other conditions to optimize dynamics for the driver, without the driver being aware of such intervention. It has four modes—Basic, Advanced, Pro, and Master—to assist drivers in the handling experience they want. Basic works with the Slippery and Comfort overall drive programs, Advanced is activated in Sport mode, and Pro is part of the Sport+ program. Master links to the Race drive program on the GT C and GT R.

Mercedes extended the scope of its Track Pace data recorder for the track. Thanks to an algorithm that finds the precise location of the vehicle, standard Track Pace detects when the driver has left the track or took a shortcut. In more tech updates, a parking package with park assistant and front and rear cameras is a new standard feature.

Inside the cabin, Mercedes freshened the design of the instrument cluster. Three display styles are available on the 12.3-inch screen: Classic, Sporty, and Supersport. The latter mode provides additional information to the driver, such as a prompt to shift up while in manual transmission mode. The two-door GT also borrows the steering wheel from the four-door coupe. Along with updated materials, there are new buttons on the wheel that can operate the different drive programs and other functions. Redesigned center console buttons also give the GT new life.

One thing that hasn’t changed is power output from the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8. The GT still makes 469 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, and the GT C produces 550 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque. GT R models pump out 577 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes has discontinued the GT S, which slotted between the base GT and the GT C.
