BMW once again brought out a camouflaged prototype of its upcoming X2 crossover, this time during Fashion Week in Milan, Italy. The camo job is slightly different, but unfortunately doesn’t reveal any more details about the new BMW.
BMW ditched the orange and black camouflage in favor of a yellow, gray, and black color scheme that it says “highlights [the X2’s] sporty and stylish qualities.” The camouflaged X2 prototype continues to show off the majority of its front end, which features angled-in headlights with inner LED piping, wide dual kidney grilles, and foglights mounted high in the fascia. Like the concept that debuted last year in Paris, the X2 sports a narrow glasshouse and raked rear liftgate. The prototype also rides on large alloy wheels wrapped in low-profile tires.
Details on the production X2 are slim, but we expect it to essentially be a more stylish version of the X1, riding on the same front-wheel-drive-based UKL architecture. That means it will also probably offer the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Like the X1, both front- and all-wheel drive should be offered.
An official debut for the production X2 hasn’t been announced yet, but it will likely show up during the coming auto show season. Stay tuned.
