Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus Gets U.S. Low Volume Manufacturer Status

Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (SCG) announced that it has been named a Low Volume Manufacturer by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The classification allows SCG to produce up to 325 cars per year, though actual annual production will be much less than that.

Founder Jim Glickenhaus was previously best known for his highly customized Ferrari Enzo, called the Pininfarina P4/5. In 2015, he unveiled the SCG003 supercar, which will be offered in race, track-focused, and street spec. The street version, called the SCG003S (“S” for Stradale), will feature a twin-turbo 4.4-liter reverse-flow V-8 delivering 750 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The engine will be mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The non-street-legal SCG003C (“C” for Competizione) will be closer in spec to the car that won its class and finished 19^th overall at the 2017 Nürburgring 24 Hours. That car featured a Honda-derived twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 tuned to 490 hp to meet class rules. The SCG003CS will be similar to the competition model, but will be street-legal. All cars will feature a carbon fiber monocoque body.

With the green light from NHTSA, SCG can now produce cars that are exempt from certain regulations, but the company says its road-going vehicles will meet all safety and emissions standards required to register them under state law. SCG says it will pursue setting up a manufacturing facility in the U.S.

Want one? Then you’d better start saving, as each car is priced at $2 million. The first run of 2018 model-year cars will be limited to 4-6 copies, while the 2019 run will be 8-10 cars. SCG will unveil the first registered example of the SCG003CS at The Quail Motorsports Gathering in Monterey, Calif., on August 18.
