The latest Racing Line episode is unlike any before, host Randy Pobst goes up against fellow pro racing driver Justin Bell in three different Lexus sports cars at three different race tracks. In past episodes, Randy would explain different racing techniques, now he is applying those techniques in this episode, or as he says, “Turn preaching into practice.”
The two start off the competition at the Road America track in Wisconsin in two identical Lexus GS F sedans. The two battle it out for the lead, pushing the GS Fs to their limits. In the end, one driver is barely able to eke out a win by .01 seconds. The winner won with a clean pass, a racing term explained by the drivers after the race.
Both race car drivers then head to the east coast to compete at the New Jersey Motorsports Park in two Lexus RC F coupes. They thrash the coupes around every corner nearly hitting each other as they fight for 1st place. With a margin of just .04 seconds, one driver secures a solid win by using blocking, a racing strategy that the two explain after the race.
The final race takes place at the famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and in the automaker’s flagship and fastest sports car, the Lexus LC 500. Randy Pobst knows this raceway well due to the countless hot laps he has done for Motor Trend, not to mention his many professional wins there, but Laguna Seca is where Justin Bell clinched his FIA GT2 World Championship. Both professionals clearly know this track well. The drivers race the LC 500s as if they were fighting for a real cup championship. The track’s famous corkscrew turn is where victor makes his move to take the lead and keeps it until the end. Randy and Justin explain how drivers need the highest amount of focus in order to take the checkered flag.
After three hard fought races, who won the Racing Line championship cup? What techniques did they use to secure the victory? Watch the video below to find out.
