Infiniti has released another teaser for its upcoming electric SUV concept bound for the Detroit auto show. In addition to revealing a lot more of the vehicle’s design, the teaser gives us the concept’s name: QX Inspiration.
The SUV’s design was heavily obscured by shadow in the first teaser, but this latest image gives us a much clearer look at the SUV. Just like the Q Inspiration sedan concept, the QX Inspiration features slender headlights and a simulated grille frame molded into the front bumper. And like the Q Inspiration, Prototype 9, and Prototype 10 concepts, the SUV features a three-dimensional Infiniti emblem, which is backlit along with the Infiniti script. The concept also appears to have a sharply raked windshield, blacked-out A-pillars, and a narrow greenhouse that suggests a sleek profile. In true concept car fashion, the wheels are large and come wrapped in rubber-band tires that feature a futuristic tread pattern.
As we previously reported, the SUV concept previews Infiniti’s design direction for future models, which will all be electrified starting in 2021. Infiniti’s lineup will be made up of a mix of pure EVs and hybrids with gas engines that act as range-extenders for the battery. A new platform is being developed for these future electrified models. The automaker says this platform will make possible spacious, lounge-like interiors, and promises that the one in the QX Inspiration concept will be hand-crafted using traditional techniques and “materials inspired by a subtle Japanese sensuality.”
“QX Inspiration is the beginning of a new era for Infiniti and an illustration of where we want to go with the brand,” Infiniti executive design director Karim Habib said in a release. “New technology has given us the opportunity to evolve our design philosophy—and the new vehicle communicates the serene strength at our core.”
We’ll see the QX Inspiration concept in Detroit on January 14, but you can likely expect more teasers until then.
