2019 Hyundai Veloster N Fuel Economy Rated at 25 mpg Combined

During our first drive, the new Hyundai Veloster impressed us with its stylish looks, enjoyable driving experience, and affordable price tag. But as great as the regular Veloster is, the one we’ve really had our eye on is the Veloster N. As the first N product sold in the U.S., it’s a 275-hp hot hatch that promises to be an absolute blast to drive. And now that we know what kind of gas mileage it gets, it looks like the Veloster N will be pretty economical, as well.

According to the EPA, the manual-only 2019 Hyundai Veloster N is rated at a Honda Civic Type R-matching 22 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, giving it a combined rating of 25 mpg. That’s a big step down from the six-speed Veloster Turbo’s 26/33/29 mpg city/highway/combined rating and the 25/33/28 mpg you get with the six-speed Volkswagen GTI, but don’t forget the Veloster N is more powerful.

That’s also only half the story. You see, unlike the Type R, the Veloster N doesn’t require premium fuel. Even though it’s turbocharged, it runs on good, old-fashioned 87-octane. By the EPA’s calculations, that little detail means you’ll save about $1,750 over the next five years. Drive the Veloster N like it was meant to be driven, and you could end up saving even more.

We’re still waiting for our chance to put the Veloster N through our full battery of tests, but our initial driving impressions were extremely positive. Throw in comparatively low operating costs, and it looks like Hyundai Veloster N is shaping up to be one heck of a performance bargain.
