When Nissan debuted its new subcompact crossover late last year, it promised a starting price of below $19,000. And it looks like the automaker has kept its word. The 2018 Nissan Kicks goes on sale later this spring for $18,965, including destination.
That base price is well below the competition. The 2018 Hyundai Kona starts at $20,480, while the 2018 Honda HR-V comes in at $20,665. The 2018 Mazda CX-3 and Toyota C-HR are even more expensive, starting at $21,085 and $23,495 respectively.
Standard features on the Nissan Kicks include automatic emergency braking, Bluetooth, three USB ports, and automatic headlights. Buyers can step up to the SV trim level if they want Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, Nissan Intelligent Key, automatic temperature control, and remote engine start. These models start at $20,665.
The top-level SR adds LED low-beam headlights and LED signature accents, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a roof-mounted spoiler, front and rear bumpers with body color inserts, dark chrome grille accents, and an around view monitor that makes parking easier. Prices are still reasonable at $21,265 for this trim.
All Kicks come standard with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine making 125 hp and 115 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a CVT transmission, and front-wheel drive is the only configuration available.
Nissan has said the Kicks should lure in customers who are looking to move up from small entry-level sedans. This price strategy is a good start, but we’ll have to test the crossover out for ourselves to see how it drives.
