Polestar 1 Greets European Public in Geneva

The Polestar 1 made its European debut at the 2018 Geneva auto show, which is also its first auto show appearance after its world debut in late 2017. Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, revealed that the Polestar 1 has garnered interest from 6,000 potential customers and believes that the automaker has exceeded its early stage production potential.

Pre-orders for the Polestar 1 will start on March 13, 2018, and consumers can put down a €2,500 deposit, which is roughly $3,100 at current exchange rates. Initially, pre-orders will only be open for consumers in six markets including the U.S., Sweden, Germany, Norway, China, and the Netherlands. An additional 12 markets will be able to pre-order the Polestar 1 later and include the U.K., Belgium, France, and Switzerland. In total, the Polestar 1 will be available for pre-order in 18 markets.

A new subscription model will launch along with the Polestar 1 where customers can subscribe to the vehicle for two to three years. Just like the Care by Volvo subscription service, the program includes insurance and maintenance as part of the monthly fee. However, should a customer want to purchase their Polestar 1 outright, they can do that as well.

After the Geneva auto show, the Polestar 1 will also make an appearance in other regions including the U.S. Powering the Polestar 1 is a plug-in hybrid system good for 600 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. The gas engine it uses is Volvo’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder coupled to a bespoke system exclusively made for the Polestar 1 with three battery packs and two electric motors. In all-electric mode, the Polestar 1 can travel up to 93 miles.
