The Australian-market Ford Ranger Raptor has been teased once again in a new video, which shows the off-road truck plays in the dirt. We’ll see it fully uncamouflaged on February 7 in Thailand, and the latest footage gets us excited for what looks like a seriously capable version of the midsize pickup.
In the video, the truck is shown barreling down a dirt road, fording through streams, drifting in sand, getting dirty in the mud, and catching air. The Ranger Raptor is just as covered up as it was in the last clip announcing its existence, but we can catch a very brief glimpse of the grille through the camo. Not surprisingly, you can see a large-font Ford logo similar to the one used on the F-150 Raptor’s grille.
We already have some idea of what the Ranger Raptor will look like thanks to some exclusive spy shots sent in to us by a reader. Though they were low-resolution, the images clearly showed the Ranger Raptor’s unique grille—which looks a lot like the one on this test mule. That truck was caught in Oklahoma, and may have been a U.S.-spec Ranger Raptor given the left-hand-drive layout. But with the U.S.-market 2019 Ranger looking pretty much the same as the global Ranger, we expect the two performance versions will look just as similar.
The Ranger Raptor that Australia will get is said to receive a high-output 3.2-liter turbodiesel I-5 engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The truck additionally receives a low-range transfer case, unique off-road-tuned suspension, and 17-inch wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich A/T tires. We don’t have any hard details on a potential U.S.-market Ranger Raptor, but we could see one being offered here with Ford’s twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6.
