Ram has succeeded in increasing its share in the full-size truck market in the last several years, and now it’s rolling out a new 1500 to improve its competitiveness further. The 2019 Ram 1500 debuted at the Detroit auto show with a shiny new exterior and a mild hybrid system headlining the changes. But it also made equally significant updates to the chassis and interior, two areas which Ram explores in the videos below.
In the first video, Ram describes how the use of advanced high-strength steel increases performance on the new truck. This material makes up 54 percent of the body structures and a whopping 98 percent of the frame. Thanks to the change, the Ram 1500 weighs about 225 pounds less overall than its predecessor. It’s also ductile, which helps to form parts when you’re stamping.
Some of the biggest updates to the Ram 1500’s interior involve technology and storage. An available 12-inch touchscreen boasts a split-screen functionality, allowing users to designate the top half of the screen for HVAC controls and the bottom half for navigation, as an example. The center console box was also designed to give users a choice on the ways they want to arrange items for storage. Ram also redesigned the shifter, center stack, and glove box.
