Festooned with badges and media stickers, our Continental GT V8-S was allowed pretty much everywhere, save for a few castles and parks where the vintage cars had to compete time trials. It also made us immediately recognizable as Mille Miglia participants, prompting spectators to cheer and ask for engine revs.

It's kind of cool to see your name on the side of fender, even if it’s not on one of the “vintages.”

The Mille Miglia begins in Brescia. Cars leave at 30-second intervals, are numbered according to production year and the order in which they leave. Obviously, this yellow Bugatti is one of the oldest cars involved.

Wherever we went during all four days, cheering fans lined the streets, often clustering around traffic circles where they would watch the cars maneuver at somewhat slower speeds and exchange waves with the drivers before hearing the cars pull away at full speed.
