Big Hauling: Every Full-Size SUV Ranked from Worst to Best

-Love 'em or hate 'em, full-size SUVs aren't going away anytime soon. Like the proverbial cockroach, they've survived numerous fuel crises, attacks from self-appointed officers of the committee for motoring righteousness, and the transition from points and carburetors to electronic ignition and fuel injection. Through it all, big-boy SUVs have been the go-to vehicles for when the job calls for hauling lots of people and their gear with enough muscle in reserve to tug a travel trailer or motorboat along for the ride. Here, we separate the wheat from the chaff.-Toyota's Sequoia offers eight-passenger seating with cavernous cargo space at a lower price than the upscale Land Cruiser. The sole engine is a 381-hp 5.7-liter V-8 with a maximum tow capacity of 7400 pounds. Multi-mode four-wheel drive with a limited-slip center differential handles the rough stuff or slick roads.-While capable off-road, the suspension has an unsettled ride on uneven pavement and the interior quality is not up to class standards. The Sequoia will meet the needs of most buyers in terms of space and capability, however.-Once a standout, the Nissan Armada is now a bit of an also-ran thanks to rivals sporting newer and better technology. It's powered by a thirsty, 317-hp 5.6-liter V-8 with a five-speed automatic and can be had with either rear- or four-wheel drive. Its 9000-pound towing capacity puts it at the top of the class, though, and the independent rear suspension delivers a compliant ride.-The Armada is roomy and comfortable for up to eight, but its interior is bland. It, like the entirety of the vehicle, is screaming for a redesign.-GMC-Yukon-XL-Denali-The Yukon XL isn’t exactly fuel efficient, but it is an outstanding utility vehicle—but forget about the sport.-2015-GMC-Yukon-Denali-2015-GMC-Yukon-Denali-Boxy, useful, and straightforward, the Chevrolet Suburban continues to perform its duties for American families like it has ever since the nameplate's debut in 1935. With a 355-hp, 5.3-liter V-8 and a six-speed automatic transmission, it has enough muscle to tow up to 8300 pounds while the optional four-wheel drive delivers all-road and -weather confidence.-With seating for up to nine and vast storage space with the rear seats up or down, the Suburban is perfect for large families who need to haul their gear to distant locales. It and its Tahoe sibling outrank their Yukon twins based solely on their slightly lower prices.-The Chevrolet Tahoe is still a full-size, body-on-frame boat hauler that rules the big-SUV set, but it's been thoroughly revised inside and out for 2015.-2015-Chevrolet-Tahoe-LTZ-Ford-Expedition-Platinum-Ford-Expedition--
