-Generally, when we think of the word “enduro,” it conjures up images of ’70s dudes in boots with metal shin plates riding through dirt for extended periods of time. In the case of Hyundai’s new Enduro concept, our minds are in a rather interplanetary space—the thing’s an amphibian-lookin’ moon buggy injected with mutant Audi Allroad fender-flare genes.

Hyundai helpfully tells us that, “in profile, Enduro has the look of a crossover vehicle,” and that the lower parts of the car “appear robust and protective while expressing mobility and agility.” We suspect that the Koreans hired some Germans to write this press release.

Inside, the automaker plays up outdoor sportiness, calling the trunk a “durable, flexible space” with “drawer-style” compartments that Hyundai suggests one might use to store sports equipment. We were thinking they might better suit mineral samples from other worlds. Or, like, strange hybrid embryos. Because it’s not sci-fi without a hybrid embryo or two. “Enduro” and “embryo” begin and end with the same letters. They’re both six-character words. Draw your own conclusions, but we’re thinking if Elon Musk winds up colonizing Mars, Hyundai’s gunning to supply the fertility clinics.
