The New Acura NSX Is Your Pikes Peak Pace Car

Acura NSX Pikes PeakThis Sunday, plenty of wild machinery will be scrambling up the hill at the 93rd running of the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The next-generation Acura NSX won’t be the fastest by a long shot—but as the official pace car of the legendary hill climb, it’ll be out in front for the entirety of at least one run.

Acura NSX Pikes PeakUnfortunately, we won’t get to see the full potential of the new NSX in this role—the car’s claimed 550-plus horsepower twin-turbo V-6, 9-speed paddle-shift transmission, Sport Hybrid electrical assist, and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive of this specially-prepped but mostly stock NSX probably won’t be pushed to the max as it leads the field of 140 entrants to the top of the 14,110-foot peak. Not that they couldn’t be: The wheelman will be Sage Marie, a senior head of Honda’s U.S. public relations team and a road racer who’s competed twice at Pikes Peak.

Acura will also run a classic NSX up the hill at Pikes Peak, along with examples of the company’s current-day sport sedans the ILX and TLX. And if you can’t make it there in person, Acura has you covered: 24 cameras along the course will capture the NSX’s maiden voyage up the hill, to be turned into a 360-degree video. Like Nissan’s 360-interactive Le Mans lap, it won’t be the same as actually being there, but it’s better than nothing.
