Ferraris are great but the problem with them is they’re so darned expensive. That’s why we were excited to see this vintage ’87 model on eBay, which immediately brought back all those “Miami Vice” memories from back in the day. With the ask on this sinister, black-on-black example only $3500, how can you go wrong?

Granted, this machine could use a little TLC, although overall it’s in pretty nice shape considering the year. There’s a small hole in the front bumper, but the side strakes are in great shape as is the rear spoiler. And all four wheels (chrome, naturally) have their knock-off center hubs. All the unmistakable Ferrari cues are there.

The interior also needs some work. You’ll need to source the trim piece that goes around the B&M shifter for the automatic transmission, and the stereo head unit is missing. The good news is that you’ll get to pick a new stereo that’s exactly what you want—cassette, CD, even iPod-compatible! And the period-correct digital dash is intact, as are all the gray plastic buttons for the climate controls. Of course the steering wheel has the legendary prancing horse in the center.

A little elbow grease and this example of ’80s awesomeness could shine again. All the classic-car experts say that models from this decade are the next hot collectibles. We’re betting it won’t be long before we see a car like this on the lawn at Pebble Beach.

UPDATE: An eagle-eyed reader points out that the listing is actually not for a Ferrari but for a Pontiac Trans Am Italia. While that is a little disappointing, everything we said still stands.
