The Porsche 718 Cayman S is already an exceptionally good sports car for the money, as we found in our 2017 Best Driver’s Car Competition, where we named it runner-up. But for not too much more, you can have the GTS model with more power and an assortment of popular features. In this video, we give you seven reasons why it’s worth it to upgrade to the GTS.
Now packing a turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four, the 2018 Porsche 718 Cayman GTS makes 365 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque when equipped with the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. That’s a bump of 15 hp and 8 lb-ft over the S model, and helps the GTS shave a tenth of a second off the S model’s 0-60 time. Porsche estimates the Cayman GTS with the PDK can scoot to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, though that’s likely conservative as we’ve clocked an S model at 3.6.
In addition to getting a quicker car, you also get a good deal of extra equipment for the money. The Sport Chrono package, which includes a steering wheel-mounted driving mode dial, comes standard. Also standard on the GTS is a Sports Exhaust System, Porsche’s PASM adaptive suspension, Porsche Torque Vectoring, and Alcantara-upholstered Sport Seats Plus buckets. As you’d expect, the GTS treatment is also available on the drop-top version, the 718 Boxster.
Whether you choose the Cayman or Boxster GTS, you’ll be getting a relative performance bargain. Watch the video above to find out why.
